In the Making Connections Thru Music project, Hopeful Aging is partnering with Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging to develop and evaluate an app enables older adult volunteers to lead an evidence-based music intervention for persons with dementia. This NIH / NIA-funded study (R42 AG076037) aims to provide social roles for older adult volunteers and improve quality of life of persons with dementia. Mr. Gregg Gorzelle and Ms. Silvia Orsulic-Jeras are both Principal Investigators for this study. Keep an eye out for more information about this project soon!
In the BRAIN study, Hopeful Aging is developing and evaluating a tablet-based app that customizes activities for persons with dementia through the use of Artificial Intelligence. The ultimate goal of this NIH / NIA-funded study (R43 AG071105) is to improve the quality of life of persons with dementia. The Principal Investigator of this study is Michael Skrajner. In the Phase I SBIR project titled All About Me, Hopeful Aging developed an innovative game designed for individuals with dementia transitioning into long-term care (LTC) and their family care partners. This engaging game, which is currently in its early development phase, offers a fun and interactive way for new residents and their families to share information about the resident's background, interests, hobbies, and personal preferences.
The insights gathered from the game are then used to create tailored, community-specific activity programming that benefits all residents within the LTC community. This approach not only fosters meaningful engagement but also helps build connections among residents. Gregg Gorzelle and Michael Skrajner served as Principal Investigators for this NIH/NIA-funded study (R43 AG077993). We anticipate launching a Phase II SBIR project in late 2025. In the Phase I SBIR project titled SAFE at Home, Hopeful Aging developed an innovative service designed to enhance social engagement for individuals with dementia living at home. This innovative service, currently in its early development phase, begins by connecting older adults with shared interests. A highly trained activity professional then facilitates group-based sessions via videoconference, using evidence-based activity materials tailored to promote meaningful interaction and engagement. Michael Skrajner serves as the Principal Investigator for this NIH/NIA-funded study (R43 AG075974). We look forward to launching the Phase II SBIR project in mid-to-late 2025. Stay tuned for updates!
